The Herceg Novi / Bijela area Herceg Novi is located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Founded in 1382, its defensive role is witnessed by numerous fortresses and towers, where today, on open-air stages, film, music and flower festivals are held. It also has several beautiful squares with old churches, galleries and museums as well as many fine restaurants and open-air cafés. A characteristic feature of the city is its parks and gardens with numerous plant species like palms, cikasi, magnolia, agave, banana and other Mediterranean and sub-tropical plants.Excursions available in the area include: Exploring the medieval city of Dubrovnik, which each summer hosts the world-famous Dubrovnik Festival. Visiting the historic Ostrog Monastery which is situated against an almost vertical background high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda. Taking a boat trip around the Bay of Kotor including visits to the church of the Lady of the Rock on the island of Gospa od Skrpjela and the amazing towns of Perast and Kotor. Travelling out by night on a glass-bottomed boat to the island of Mamula to view the rich underwater beauty beneath, illuminated by searchlights to a depth of 15 metres.
